The Barekhu is the call to worship in the synagogue, and traditionally is recited by the cantor (or chazzan) in the presence of a minyan, a group of ten males who are bar mitzvah (the requirement for ten males comes from the account of Abraham's intercession for Sodom, wherein the Lord agreed that if there were ten righteous people in the city, He would spare it from destruction). The Barekhu is also said by a person called up to the public reading of the Torah.
